Falafel or Chickpea patties

Falafel is a Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food made of chickpeas. These Chickpea patties are eaten all over Middle East , as wrapped in a pita or can be had as an appetizer.


Ingredients:-


Chickpeas 1 cup( Soaked overnight with water) or 1 can of chickpeas drained and rinsed.
Onion 1 Medium Chopped
Garlic 3 cloves about an inch chopped
Coriander Powder 1 tbsp
Black pepper powder 1 tbsp
Cumin  powder 1tsp
Coriander leaves 1/2 cup chopped
Parsley fresh 1/2 cup chopped
Salt
All purpose flour 1-2 tbsp( acc.)
Sesame seeds 1-2 tbsp
Baking soda 1/2 tsp

Method:-


1)Soak the dry chickpeas over night in water . Drain the chickpeas so that its fully dried.

2)Now in a food processor add all the ingredients except all purpose flour and salt and grind it so that there is no whole chickpeas left.

3)Don't Grind it to a creamy paste . It should be rough and coarse. Do it in small batches and don't add water.

4)Now shift the mixture in the bowl and mix it well with salt , soda, sesame seeds  and remove any whole chick peas if missed.

5)Now check if small balls can be formed from the mixture .If not add the flour accordingly little by little.

6)Take a pan and pour enough oil for frying the falafels or the chickpea balls.

7)After the oil is hot fry the falafels in a slow - medium flame until it turns brown from all the sides.

8)Serve the hot falafels with hummus or use it in pita pocket and serve it as a falafel pita sandwich.

Enjoy the Mediterranean dish at home..



Notes:-

You can also boil the chickpeas for half an hour with salt in a pot and mash it with hands or food processor.
